FILM: “Il Piccolo Diavolo” by R. Benigni. WInner of the David Award for Best Actor. Produced: 1998, Duration: 112′

Father Maurice (Maurizio – Walther Matthau), a priest living in a residential college for priests in Rome, is called out one day to “exorcise” the devil from someone. The devil turns out to be in the form of a fun-loving man called Giuditta (Judith – Roberto Benigni). What Father Maurice doesn’t know is that this type of devil will turn his life around.

A comedy of love and politics about growing up in the shadow of the ’60s. For 16-year-old Silvio, being a part of his high school’s ‘counterculture’ movement has been reduced to selecting clothes that will mark him a slacker, a hippie, a goth, or a politico. And while Silvio’s school is being taken over by these protest-happy political renegades, all he can think about is how to get Valentina to kiss him in the storeroom and Claudia to fall in love with him.

FILM: “Io, Chiara, e lo Scuro” by M. Ponzi. 1982, Winner of the David di Donatello Prize, duration 103′

Francesco, nicknamed ‘Toscano’, is a very good pool player but he never wins when he plays for money. He meets Chiara, a saxophone player, on a late night bus by swapping his case containing the cue with her one, containing the sax. The two fall in love, but in the meantime Francesco loses a big amount of money playing versus ‘Scuro’, the long-time Italian champion. His only chance to pay the debt is to win the Italian Championships.

This monstery, built in 1300 is rich with Florentine masterpieces from the 15th and 16th centuries. Attached to the monastery is a shop selling local artisan products. The visit will be guided by one of the monks.

Love and injury in time of war. Attilio de Giovanni teaches poetry in Italy. He has a romantic soul, and women love him. But he is in love with Vittoria, and the love is unrequited. Every night he dreams of marrying her, in his boxer shorts and t-shirt, as Tom Waits sings. Vittoria travels to Iraq with her friend, Fuad, a poet; they are there with the second Gulf War breaks out. Vittoria is injured. Attilio must get to her side, and then, as war rages around him, he must find her the medical care she needs. In war, does love conquer all?

With the arrival of the famous chilean writer Pablo Neruda, cast into exile on a small island in the mediterranean, the postman Mario becomes fascinated by Neruda’s prose. With the excuse of delivering the mail daily to his cottage, Mario begins to learn from Neruda the art of poetry.

“Mediterraneo” won an Oscar in 1992 for “Best Foreign Film.”
Plot: During the second world war, eight Italian soldiers are given orders to guard a small Greek island in the middle of the Mediterranean. Although apparently deserted, the eight soldiers slowly integrate with the local people and come to see themselves in a new light. Their radio broken, the soldiers are isolated until the arrival of a small airplane, whose pilot informs them of the extensive changes that have happened during the three years they have been on the island.
